Q&A Info

WHAT DOES DOG PHOTOGRAPHY COST?

My photography session fee starts at $200. Depending on your wants and needs such as having 1-2 digital files, all the best digital files from the session, prints, standouts, metal prints or art canvas.

WHERE DOES THE PHOTO SESSION TAKE PLACE?

I come to you! I will come to your home where I feel that dogs are most comfortable. I will need an area to set up my small photo studio. A living room usually works, however a 10’x10′ spaces is all thats really needed. It takes about 30 minutes to set up and then the fun begins. We may have to move some furniture a bit but nothing major and I will make sure things are back in order after we are done.

I HAVE MORE THEN ONE DOG CAN YOU PHOTOGRAPH BOTH?

Sure! There will be an additional fee per each additional dog.

DOES MY DOG NEED TO KNOW TRICKS?

Your canine family member doesn’t need to know fancy tricks to get great photo’s however knowing the sit, stay and drop/leave it commands can be important. It is also helpful if they will catch a treat, or at least try to catch a treat. If this is not something done often maybe practice a bit before the session day. If there are other tricks your dog knows let me know that as well.

DO I NEED ANY SPECIAL TREATS?

Not at all. Have on hand your dogs favorite treat. I also bring treats with me. They will get a lot of treats! Its also great if your dog likes, and can have, peanut butter. I have not met a dog yet that didn’t!

DO I NEED TO DO ANYTHING BEFORE THE SESSION?

It can be a good idea to take your dog for a walk or play some before hand to burn off some energy. Especially with high energy dogs. It will help them focus better on me and what I ask of them. Don’t completely wear them out though. LOL! It can also be good to have your dogs fur brushed or trimmed a bit especially around the eyes. That said its not a must do, sometimes longer fur over an eye can make a great photo.

WHAT WILL I NEED TO DO DURING THE SESSION

Have fun! Its better to prepare yourself to stay relaxed and have fun! Your buddy will feed off your energy. So before and during the session its best for you to be calm, relaxed and patient. Sometimes a dog doesn’t want to sit where we need between the lights. Or maybe has no interests in catching treats from stranger. I never force a dog into position and want this experience to be positive and fun for all. So it helps if you stay calm. I also may ask you to help get the dog into position, be next to me helping the dog to face in my direction and even throwing treats yourself, its fun!

DO YOU ONLY USE A BLACK AND PLAIN BACKGROUND?

At this time yes. The look, feel and brand of the images I want to create works best with the black background.

DO YOU TAKE MORE TRADITION POSED PHOTOS DURING THE SESSION?

My focus is on catching funny and “human like” expressions on out friends and them tracing, or trying, to catch treats. Usually fairly tight cropped on their head and face. Not much of the body.

DO YOU HAVE A DOG?

Sure do! A four year old Golden Retriever named Rosa who likes playing fetch more then anything in the world! You can see a photo of her below.
